Conference program
Keynote address: Developing an Active Citizenry for National Development
8:30 – 10:00 AM; VENUE: MAIN BALLROOM
True development will only be achieved if we include the people for whom development is intended and by whom development can be achieved. Wider citizen participation through volunteering can bring about open collaborations that can lead to a more equal society and well-being of the majority.
Plenary A: How is volunteering changing the corporate culture?
8:30 – 10:00 AM; VENUE: MAIN BALLROOM
Volunteering is a very personal individual choice. It is a reflection of what you care about and what you have hope for. These days, people hardly take to the streets; rather they volunteer their time, skills and stature to advocate issues or towards specific actions that improve conditions of disadvantaged men and women.
Plenary B: Volunteering is modern activism
8:30 – 10:00 AM; VENUE: MAIN BALLROOM
Business has been dealt some blows in recent years with dipping bottomlines due to a global economic meltdown and grassroots movements such as Occupy Wall Street fanning a deeper distrust for corporate interests. Companies are driven more than at any time in history to act as responsible corporate citizens and to steer their own people to get involved through employee volunteering programs.

Corporate Volunteering: Transactional or Transformational
11:00 AM – 12:30 PM; VENUE: DASMARIÑAS ROOM
Corporate volunteering may be transactional, transformational or both. Transactional partnerships have become a standard for a good number of organizations where they ensure they work directly with prime movers in development and become a development actor themselves. Others have maintained their high value transactional partnerships usually through employee volunteering. Which one works best?

The Vigilance to Volunteerism or V2V PIPELOG program of the Department of Interior and Local Government aims to catalyze the active participation of non-government and civil society organizations in local governance. This provides a platform for volunteerism that is potentially massive in scale and impact. The art of volunteer engagement and volunteer delight
2:00 – 3:30 PM; VENUE: LEGASPI ROOM
Volunteers stay committed to a cause when their full personhood is engaged and motivated --- a state we can call “Volunteer Delight.” By putting the right systems in place, the organization ensures that they remain in touch with the priorities and concerns of their volunteers and that these are addressed in a timely manner.

Volunteers who are aware, prepped and ready are valuable assets to the organization.
