The 2nd Volunteering Expo
The Philippines is ripe for a volunteering revolution! It is one of the few countries that has institutionalized volunteerism as a strategy for national development and international cooperation. The Volunteer Act of 2007 provides a clear mandate and push for organizations to underscore the value of active citizenship and volunteering for development.
Volunteerism as a movement also reached a peak during the time of Ondoy, and much recently in the wake of the Sendong floods, helped along by new technologies and social media which made real-time information gathering and speedy mass mobilization possible. All these helped to awaken a critical mass to the rewards of volunteering.
The Volunteering Expo aims to help ignite a volunteering revolution, not only when citizen action is urgent, but at all times. We aim to raise the profile and value of volunteering and volunteers, elevating them in the consciousness of our society as integral and essential in our pursuit of progress and better life for all.
It is a pioneering platform for all those who share the work of volunteering and development. It provides an avenue for learning exchange and brokering of knowledge in volunteering for development. It is a venue for debate, discussion and continuing conversations about the role and the future of the volunteering and how it can be harnessed for national and global development. It will showcase best practices and laudable programs that have shaped the voluntary and development sector in the country.
The Volunteering Expo is conceived, developed and organized by VSO Bahaginan as part of its continuing commitment to promote volunteering for development. VSO Bahaginan is a development organization that fights poverty through a range of volunteering programs.
Following the success of the Philippines' first Volunteering Expo in 2011, we proudly present the 2nd Volunteering Expo with a bigger conference and volunteer fair.
